Category:
Colloquium
Title:
Macroscopic versus microscopic approaches to non-equilibrium systems
Speaker:
Professor Bernard Derrida
Date:
16-Jun-2011
Time:
16:30
Location:
Lidow Rosen Auditorium (323)
Abstract:

The lectures will review some well established properties of non-equilibrium diffusive systems in their steady state (existence of long-range correlations, non-locality of the large deviation function of the density, large deviation function of the current and its symmetries). They will also present some more recent progresses as well as open problems on density and current fluctuations in non steady state situations or at phase transitions. Professor Bernard Derrida is one of the leaders in the field of Statistical Mechanics. In recognition of his work he was elected to the French Academy of Science in 2004 and was awarded the Boltzmann Medal in 2010.
